Deep Dark Technology

Deep Dark Technology

Available on all Unistellar Smart Telescopes via new App v2.4

Would you like to see the cloudy colorful Nebulas? The wonderful shapes and details of Galaxies? All from the heart of the city?

Its sounds impossible but that’s exactly what Unistellar’s technologies can offer. See how it works.

Push the limits of what’s possible

Deep Dark Technology is a radical advancement designed by Unistellar to filter noise and light pollution. Integrated into our telescopes, this technology automatically filters out the interference from city lights that would otherwise obscure the light signal from distant celestial objects.

Even in very bright urban areas, Deep Dark Technology instantly transforms the image so that it has a black background as intense as the depths of space, revealing the very faintest celestial objects with impressive clarity. The Lyra nebula reveals its vivid blue and red hues, and the Cigar galaxy, located 11.4 million light-years away, showcases the picturesque shape and details for which it is named.

How does Deep Dark Technology work?

By analyzing the many images of the sky captured by our user community, our exclusive algorithms have been trained to automatically distinguish the light signal coming from celestial bodies from noise and light pollution.

Our algorithms analyze each part of the image and determine which of its components is linked to light pollution. This is then removed, revealing the targeted celestial object and the myriad of stars surrounding it.

An incomparable experience

Planets, nebulae, and galaxies stand out perfectly against the infinitely deep black sky, even in environments that are heavily polluted with artificial light. In Tokyo and Las Vegas, both notoriously rated 9 out of 9 on the Bortle light pollution scale, our telescopes allow for spectacular observations of the Triangle galaxy or the Dumbbell nebula.
